Zylin history

Zylin was founded in 2002 and has been profitable since day one with a stable and satisfied customer base with a high return rate.

Zylin's primary area of business is embedded consulting services, but additionally a few projects and and products have been developed. Zylin has always had a strong presence in the open source community, with particular interest in eCos, OpenOCD and the Zylin soft CPU.

One of the first contributions to the open source community was Zylin's eCos patches. From there Zylin went on to host www.ecosforge.net which hosts a number of projects that do not readily fit into the official eCos CVS repository. Also www.ecosforge.net is pushing a more distributed approach to the monolithic eCos repository approach.

The Zylin soft CPU, aka ZPU, was released to open source in January 2008. Since then the ZPU has seen use in academia and also various commercial products. In September 2009 Zylin started a web page to list some prominent commercial applications that use the ZPU.

In 2007 Zylin got involved in the OpenOCD project and in June 2008, the ZY1000 product released. Since then the ZY1000 business has been growing steadily and Zylin has seen the quality and activity of the OpenOCD project has increased steadily.

Management

Øyvind Harboe - General Manager. Øyvind Harboe holds a "sivilingeniør" title and has Bachelor of Engineering degree from University of Surrey. He started his career as the second software engineer in Scala and left Scala in '98 as Director Of Engineering. In '98, Øyvind Harboe founded LOOP AS and attracted investors to work on compiler technology and after 2 years LOOP AS was one of three AMD tools partners(Metrowerks, NuMega and LOOP AS), but in 2000 LOOP AS decided to recommend to the board to close down LOOP AS due to problems getting traction with silicon vendors. After a brief spell in ITForces AS as a technical manager, Øyvind Harboe and Tore Høyem founded Zylin AS in January 2002.

Tore Ramsland - Director of Engineering. Tore Ramsland holds a "sivilingeniør" title from NTNU in Trondheim. After completing his studies Tore joined Tandberg Television where he worked until he left as a manager of FPGA and hardware projects for the broadcasting industry. In 2002 Tore Ramsland joined Cyviz where he developed several products and managed PCB production for digital video processing for projectors. In 2004 Tore Ramsland became a partner in Zylin AS.

Ultimate Solutions acquires the ZY1000 product. Zylin and Ultimate Solutions expands support and development of the ZY1000 product.
